When a pet is gone, emptiness and grief remain. It is time for a proper Good-bye. Time to make final arrangements for your pet. One option is cremation. It is clean and swift. Many cultures believe flame frees the spirit to soar from the body.
The Humane Society Cremation Service
In response to community need, the Humane Society installed a modern environmentally clean, state licensed crematory. Pets may be cremated communally or individually with ashes returned to the owners if they wish. The fee for individual cremation includes a proper size urn. Other vessels in wood, bronz, pewter and onyx are available. The Humane Society staff would be pleased to review these with you. We will be providing individual cremation services on Wednesdays and Thursdays only. Due to the time necessary to cremate the animal, this service can only be provided if advance notice is given.
* Fees include euthansia if necessary. Owners who are not residents of Kent County will be charged a non-resident fee of $20.00.
The pet's cremated remains will be available for pick up 48 hours later during shelter hours of operation. Consult the HSKC staff if earlier pick up is desired.
Optional urns of wood, bronze, pewter and onyx are available at added cost. Please see the HSKC staff for more details. The Humane Society can now accept payment by American Express, Visa and Discover cards for any fees or purchases. Communal cremation will be available any time the shelter is open to the public. The cremated remains will not be returned to the owner.
